The colour itself forms the substance of this painting. The painting is a portal into a mauve world. I like the idea of colours having distinct meanings throughout cultures as well as their ability to alter the mood of a space. Mauve, purple and lilac shades are often associated with reflection, inner growth and peace.
The sole inhabitant of those composition – the lion candleholder – is a depiction from memory of an antique marble lion that was part of the eclectic decor of our family home when I was growing up.
